Love Heals Center for Youth & Families at GMHC leads a number of community initiatives and trainings throughout the year.
Recent initiatives: Youth & other community members from the Sonia Sotomayor Community Center in the Sound View section of the Bronx participated in an Opioid Overdose Prevention Programming.
In past years, LEAP for Girls alumnae have taken community action to the New York City streets through our Condom Distribution Project.
Our team of enterprising young leaders provided safer sex materials including male and female condoms, lubricant, and resource cards to youth and youth-serving businesses in the East Harlem community.
In 2014, alumnae distributed 21,864 male condoms, 25,790 packets of lubricant, and 3,926 female condoms through two outreach initiatives:
- Store: 80 male condoms and lubricant packets were distributed to each small business reflected by the pins on the map below.
- Street: In addition to male condoms and lubricant, female condoms were distributed in the grey area reflected on the map below.
