Transgender, Gender Nonconforming, Nonbinary People
How Can GMHC Help?
HIV disproportionately affects transgender people, with infection rates up to three times higher than the national average. This disparity owes to many factors including barriers to accessing health services and insurance, as well as discrimination, harassment, transphobia, and stigma.
We provide a safe, affirming, and non-judgmental space for transgender, gender nonconforming, and non-binary people (TGNCNB). In addition to comprehensive services available to all our clients, we offer targeted programs to address the needs of TGNCNB people.
Programs include:
- The Trans Equity Health Program offers workshops on issues specifically relevant to the health and well-being of TGNCNB people.
- Our Peer Navigation program links TGNCNB living with HIV to care and supportive services with the goal of achieving viral suppression.
- Project Transcend provides a client-centered and strength-based approach to the navigation of services for TGNCNB people who are looking to enhance their health and well-being. These services include:
- Evolution: A group led by TGNCNB persons who identify more on the feminine spectrum with a focus on cultivating empowerment and a sense of community.
In addition to these programs, we lead workshops for TGNCNB people on how to articulate and advocate for their needs including healthcare access, sexual health education, and reproductive rights.
Most services require you to enroll as a client. For more information about TGNCNB programming at GMHC, contact X.

The Power of Showing Up: GMHC and Community
“A lot of what I do is storytelling so that people better understand our work and the HIV and AIDS epidemic,” says Krishna Stone, GMHC’s Community Relations Director. “Sometimes these moments happen serendipitously and sometimes it’s me out doing the work. I love to network!”
