GMHC’s Board of Directors and Executive Team are proud to announce the appointment of Jonathan Mallow as the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer effective May 1, 2025.
Mallow brings to this role a unique combination of executive leadership, creative vision, and deep commitment to social impact. He has served as Chair of GMHC’s Board of Directors for over seven years, guiding the organization through significant growth and transition while working closely with GMHC’s leadership team—including Chief Operating Officer, Kishani Moreno and Chief Financial Officer, Michael Hester—to strengthen the agency’s infrastructure, expand services, and center community voices.
“Jon has always brought intention, care, and bold thinking to everything he does,” said Moreno. “His long-standing partnership with the executive team has already made a lasting impact, and I’m excited to continue building with him to expand our services and reach even more people.”
Over the years, Mallow has also been a prominent and inspiring figure at GMHC within the community, including AIDS Walk New York—one of the largest and most visible HIV/AIDS fundraising events in the country. His presence onstage and in the crowd has rallied thousands of participants, donors, and supporters, and his passionate advocacy has helped amplify GMHC’s mission in the public sphere. Mallow has consistently used his platform to champion equity, health access, and dignity for all.
In addition to his leadership at GMHC, Mallow is an accomplished senior media executive, with significant time spent at both for-profit and non-profit media companies including Viacom and TED. Most recently he led the TED Ideas Studio, a department that makes content intended for the organization’s impact team and for TED Countdown, a philanthropically funded initiative focused on accelerating solutions to the climate crisis. He has deep storytelling, management and fundraising experience which he will now bring to GMHC in an important new way.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mallow is deeply engaged in civic life. He currently serves on the board of the Maysles Documentary Center in Harlem, in addition to his long-standing board service with GMHC.
“I am honored to step into this role at such a critical time,” said Mallow. “GMHC has been a cornerstone of care and advocacy for decades. I look forward to working with our incredible staff, clients, and supporters to advance our mission and build a more equitable future.”
As CEO, Mallow will lead GMHC’s continued efforts to end the AIDS epidemic, while innovating and expanding its impact across New York City and beyond.
