SURE Housing Initiative Site Visit

As Pride Month came to a close, federal funders of our SURE Housing Initiative (Supporting Replication of Housing Interventions) visited GMHC for a comprehensive site visit on June 27-28. The purpose was to discuss the new research study grant’s implementation and evaluation processes, ensuring alignment with the initiative’s goals.

GMHC is one of just 10 organizations selected by the federal Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program for the SURE Housing Initiative. This initiative aims to drive new government policies to reduce homelessness among LGBTQ+ people, especially transgender individuals, due to stigma and trauma. The federal grant allows the agency to provide housing assistance and trauma-informed case management services to these vulnerable populations.

Over two days, GMHC staff and the site visit team engaged in activities designed to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing. The grant providers met with staff members, attended presentations, and toured GMHC’s offices to gain a comprehensive understanding of the agency’s operations. These interactions were crucial in identifying best practices and areas for improvement in the program’s implementation.

With the support of GMHC leadership and key staff members, it was noted the site visit was “reflective of our commitment to ensuring a successful program” with no financial or programmatic findings. Some of GMHC’s processes have even been shared with other initiative sites nationwide as examples to replicate.

Richarleene Walsh, Senior Director of Financial Management and SURE Housing Interventions, and Jesus Benaventa, Director of Analytics and Evaluation, were the GMHC leads for this visit.
