We think facts are sexy. So this August, GMHC is debuting a new initiative to deliver straightforward and stigma-free HIV & AIDS information in the form of a DIY-style eight-page zine we’re calling Facts are Sexy.
All eight pages are designed to fit on a single 8.5” by 11” piece of paper, so Facts are Sexy can be printed and folded by anyone. The illustrated zine format is a more accessible and entertaining read than your average STI pamphlet.
The Facts are Sexy zine reignites the entertaining and sexy energy of historic GMHC materials, such as “Safer Sex Comix.” Facts are Sexy is inspired by the Tom-of-Finland-esque cartoon studs from the Comix but brings a contemporary flair in which the real diversity of bodies and situations are represented.

The first edition of the Facts are Sexy zine is titled “Debunking HIV Myths.” This edition addresses five common myths about HIV and provides key information regarding HIV transmission, treatment, and prevention.
The Facts are Sexy zine was written and illustrated by Communications Intern, Sydney Johnson, who was inspired by her experience using zines for community organizing. “I wanted the zine to encapsulate that realistic but still a bit raunchy tone of the pamphlets,

comics, zines, and posters of early HIV and AIDS activism from GMHC and other organizations,” explained Sydney. “Hopefully, the zine will be something that can reach our younger audience, especially people who could benefit from HIV prevention resources.”
