Food & Water Safety

It is extremely important for people living with HIV/AIDS to make sure that food is correctly stored and prepared and that water is adequately filtered to reduce your risk of infections.  Because your immune system is already busy keeping your body healthy (fighting the virus) it does not have as much “time” to guard against other infections that you might acquire from food and water.  For example, if you do not cook your meats well enough you will not kill all of the bacteria in the food, which can make you sick.  However, if you follow these food and water safety tips it will reduce your risk of acquiring a food or waterborne illness.
