Rag & Bone
The Vision
rag & bone was born of the shared frustrations of Marcus Wainwright and David Neville not being able to buy the jeans that they wanted to wear. They founded the company in 2002 with one very clear vision in mind: to make clothes that they and their friends would love to wear everyday.

The Background
With no formal fashion training, Marcus and David set about learning how to make jeans. Beginning in Kentucky, they surrounded themselves with people who had been making patterns, cutting fabric and sewing their whole lives. Working with these kinds of craftsmen taught them early on the importance of quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail. These principles soon became the keystones of the rag & bone philosophy, the definition of what clothing can and should be.

The loss of their original production factory in Kentucky, due to competition from Mexico and overseas, set the tone for the final building block of the brand. At that point, Marcus and David decided to focus all of the manufacturing, not only in the US, but in factories that still sewed clothes the same way they had 50 years ago.

Coupled with a strong British tailoring influence, rag & bone produces classic yet modern sportswear for men and women that is known for being understated and very wearable. Each piece, whether it may be a tailored shirt or a pair of jeans, is still framed by the constants of high quality fabric and construction, perfect fit with a handmade feel.

The Growth
rag & bone launched their men's line in Spring 2004 in 4 stores in the US and by the Fall of 2005, they expanded the label to offer a full women's collection while also building on the style offering of the men's line. This distribution has expanded into over 120 stores for the men's line and 160 stores for the women's line worldwide. rag & bone's range now includes silhouettes that run from 100% organic knits to Italian wool overcoats and blazers, from wax coated cotton jackets to vegetable dyed twill trousers. The women's line follows a similar aesthetic of refined traditional quality coupled with a feminine flair. The Fall Winter 2007 season marked the introduction of rag & bone accessories for both men and women including men's shoes made by Grenson, women's gaiters, messenger bags, ties, and scarves. The accessories add a touch of style and distinction to their tailored looks, perfect for the well dressed and the well traveled alike.

rag & bone is available at high end boutiques and exclusive department stores worldwide including:

For men's: Barneys, Odin, Jeffrey, Louis Boston, Ron Herman, United Arrows, Barneys Japan, Isetan, Lane Crawford, Villa Moda

For women's: Barneys, Neiman Marcus, Jeffrey, Ron Herman, holt renfrew, le bon marche, Browns, Villa Moda, Podium, Barneys Japan, Isetan, Destnation
