Gay Men's Health Crisis Statement on State Budget Cuts
New York, NY Following is a statement from Marjorie Hill, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC):
"GMHC is gravely concerned about the recent cuts to the state budget that would reduce funding by over $400 million. HIV infections are on the rise. This is not the time to cut critical HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention services. We urge Governor Paterson and the State legislature to reconsider these cuts. The budget cannot be balanced on the backs of some of the most vulnerable in our state—New Yorkers who are living with HIV or who are at risk of contracting HIV. Optimal public health strategies require long-term investment. We hope the Empire State will not make penny wise decisions."
