GMHC - Fight Aids. Love Life.

Spotlight Stories: Palm Cards

Community Health, within the Michael Palm Center, is committed to HIV prevention in the context of wellness among gay men, men who have sex with men (MSM) and their affiliated communities. Addressing a multiplicity of health issues and social contexts, Community Health embraces a broader health agenda through HIV and STI prevention, leadership development, community-building, and education.

Using multifaceted approaches Community Health works to shift social norms, effect behavior change, and increase knowledge among populations disproportionately affected by HIV and AIDS. In addition to our social marketing efforts, Community Health prioritizes LGBTQ youth of color through population specific programs such as The Club House, GMHC's drop-in center for youth 13-29.

The social marketing campaigns and community events developed in Community Health are framed in a language of love, desire, connection, intimacy and pleasure and focus upon the positive aspects, resources, resiliencies and strengths within individuals and communities. Over all, Community Health addresses HIV risk in its interpersonal and sexual contexts while addressing broader cultural forces such as homophobia, racism, stigma, violence, sexism, gender role expectations, addiction, isolation and poverty.
