How We Can Help
The HIV/AIDS epidemic disproportionately affects people of color including people who identify as Latinx. In 2017, adult and adolescent Hispanics/Latinos made up more than one-quarter of new HIV infections. Among Latinx people, new HIV infections are rising at higher rates than many other populations.
We serve Latinx people who are recently diagnosed with HIV, have been living with HIV for years, or are HIV-negative. For some of our Latinx clients, language barriers, immigration status, mistrust of the health care system, stigma, fear, discrimination, and homophobia make it harder to seek care.
GMHC is a safe and non-judgmental place to access services. Our comprehensive services are designed to support both your physical and mental health – and meet you where you are in your journey. Most services require that you enroll as a client. We have staff persons who can provide services in Spanish and English in a culturally sensitive manner. We also have support groups for Latinx women and men living with HIV/AIDS.

Yes, most of our services are designed to serve the needs of people who have tested positive for HIV. However, we offer services for people who are HIV negative and/or affected by HIV. To determine what programs you may be eligible for, please contact our intake department.
Yes, we offer some programs in Spanish. We also have staff persons who can speak Spanish.
You can complete the secure and confidential form on this page or call 212-367-1057. Due to COVID-19, staff are providing remote intake services by phone for people who wish to become a GMHC client and access services. Staff will assess your needs and make referrals to programs and services provided by GMHC and/or our partners throughout New York City.
Yes, our services have different eligibility requirements. An intake specialist can help you understand requirements for our different services.
No, you do not need to be a U.S. citizen to receive most services at GMHC.
Yes, we have a Legal Department that specializes in assisting individuals with immigration issues.
